Make Sure you have Home Insurance

Home InsuranceOwning a home is a great feeling; your house is your castle and you can make any changes that you like to ensure that you and your family are comfortable and happy. But you need to make sure that you have home insurance to protect you in case something goes wrong. A house is probably the most expensive thing you will purchase in your life, and for this reason you have to make sure that you are covered.

An insurance company will make a number of assumptions before they provide you with a quote, and these include quoting you on the basis that you have no criminal convictions, pending or otherwise, and that the house is not left unoccupied for more than thirty days at a time. They also presume that your home is maintained and kept well and that it is not a listed building.

They will then go on to quote you, and this quote is based on a number of factors. The area that you live in can have an impact on the price quoted. You need to bear in mind that if you live in an area that is prone to burglary, then your insurance may be higher than normal. So what type of home insurance should you opt for? There are two types; contents and buildings insurance. If you rent a property then the landlord is required to take care of the buildings insurance and therefore will protect anything fixed to the building, for example the oven or the roof. Anything that has been brought into the property (if it is unfurnished) is your responsibility and therefore will be covered under the contents insurance.

If you own your own home then you will need to deal with both or risk having to find the money yourself should something happen. You should choose to cover your home for the amount that it would cost to rebuild it, rather than the value of your home. You can opt for basic cover or add in optional extras like accidental damage or garden/bicycle cover if you have anything specific that you need. Alternatively you can add home assistance for the incident when the boiler breaks down or a water pipe leaks. As you can see there are plenty of types of cover that you can opt for, but you must ensure you have the basics covered
